The short version: OpenAI does not permit ads for legal services on ChatGPT. Educational ads are allowed, but even approved ads never appear in the sensitive conversations where cases begin. The firms that reach those moments are the ones ChatGPT recommends organically. We are an onboarded OpenAI advertiser, and this page explains what we learned from inside the platform.

No for services, yes for education. OpenAI's ad policy prohibits ads for legal advice, representation, or legal services, whether they are offered to individuals or businesses. The policy names immigration, personal injury, legal claims, and document preparation specifically. A law firm cannot run an ad that says, in any wording, hire us for your case.
General legal education and media, with no services offered. A firm can advertise a genuine guide, explainer, or resource, something that teaches rather than sells representation. The landing page has to deliver real education. OpenAI pulls ads whose educational guide turns out to be an intake form in disguise.
We confirmed all of this on a live call with our OpenAI client activation partner in July 2026, and it matches OpenAI's written ad policy and onboarding materials. This is not a review backlog or a phrasing problem you can wordsmith around. Service ads for law firms are off the table, and any agency selling you a ChatGPT campaign for your legal services is selling something the platform will reject.
Even a fully approved ad never displays in a conversation ChatGPT classifies as sensitive. Someone typing "I've been in a car accident, I need a good lawyer in my area" sees no ads. Not fewer ads. None. This is a delivery rule confirmed to us by OpenAI's own activation team, not a policy nuance you can appeal.
Every advertiser passes an account review, then each individual ad passes its own review. Clear both and the sensitive-conversation filter still decides where the ad can appear. For case-driven practices, that filter removes exactly the conversations that produce clients.
The moment a case is born, right after the crash, the arrest, or the injury at work, is a sensitive conversation by definition. Paid placement cannot reach it. If your growth depends on being present at that moment inside ChatGPT, advertising is not the channel that gets you there. Being the firm ChatGPT itself names in its answer is.
ChatGPT recommends specific firms when it can verify who they are, what they handle, and why they are credible. Making a firm verifiable is the core of our AI Search Optimization service, and it works in the exact conversations where ads are suppressed.
One page per practice area and jurisdiction, written so an AI model can extract who you represent, where, and for what case types. See ChatGPT SEO for lawyers.
Bar admissions, practice history, and bio pages that match what public records say about each attorney. Credentials that check out across sources are what a model can safely repeat.
Press mentions, directory listings, and a steady, genuine review record give the model outside evidence that the firm is real and reputable.
SEO for law firms drives both traditional and AI search visibility, and it is the foundation any educational ad pilot would build on too.
We work with one law firm per practice area per market
This exclusivity policy ensures our clients do not compete against each other. Contact us to check availability in your area.
We run our own ChatGPT ads account as an onboarded OpenAI advertiser, so we can tell you plainly what the platform will and will not allow for your practice area. If an educational ad pilot fits, we will say so and scope it. If organic recommendation work is the better spend, we will show you exactly what that looks like. Not for its services. OpenAI's ad policy prohibits ads for legal advice, representation, or legal services, whether offered to individuals or businesses, and personal injury is named in the policy itself. A PI firm can only advertise genuine educational content. Even an approved educational ad will not appear in conversations ChatGPT flags as sensitive, which covers most conversations about a fresh accident.
It promotes real teaching content with no services offered. A guide that explains how accident claims are valued, or what happens after a DUI arrest, landing on a page that actually educates. A thin PDF gated behind a case evaluation form does not qualify. OpenAI treats disguised intake funnels as service ads and pulls them.
The classifier reads the surface of the creative. Words like injury, accident lawyer, or law firm in the copy, imagery like gavels and scales of justice, and even the campaign name can push an ad into the legal services category. If you believe the label is wrong, you get one request for manual review, so use it before editing the ad. While a manual review is pending, leave the ad alone until support replies.
Postpay on a dynamic CPM. You accrue impressions during the month against a credit limit, with starting tiers at $25 and $50, and the outstanding balance is charged at month end. There is no CPC option yet. Note that OpenAI runs two separate reviews, one for the account and one for each ad, so an approved account does not mean your ads are approved.
No. Conversations ChatGPT classifies as sensitive display no ads at all, and asking for a lawyer after an accident, an arrest, or an injury is exactly that kind of conversation. Our OpenAI activation partner confirmed the example directly: someone typing that they were in a car accident and need a good lawyer in their area sees zero ads. The only firms present in that answer are the ones ChatGPT cites organically.
By being easy for the model to verify. Clear practice-area pages that state who you represent, where, and for what case types. Attorney bios with bar admissions and credentials that match public records. Third-party coverage and directory listings that confirm the firm exists and does this work. A steady, genuine review record. That is the work our AI search optimization service does.
Yes. We are an onboarded OpenAI advertiser with a direct relationship with an OpenAI client activation partner, and we run our own ChatGPT ads account. Everything on this page comes from that account, our partner calls, and OpenAI's official onboarding materials, not from speculation about a platform we have never touched.
Nobody can promise it will. The ad policy is young and has already shifted more than once, and OpenAI publishes no timeline. More important, even if service ads opened up tomorrow, the sensitive-conversation rule would still keep ads out of the moments where cases begin. Organic visibility works today and does not depend on a policy change.
